About the artist
In her work, Emely Deceuninck draws on personal memories, childlike wonder and the poetry of the everyday. Ordinary objects take on a charged meaning and become carriers of closeness and tenderness. By alternating transparent and opaque layers of paint, she lets images appear and fade. This creates a hushed visual language around presence and absence.
Emely Deceuninck (1998) lives in Ghent. She earned a master's in painting at LUCA School of Arts and an educational master's in visual and audiovisual arts at KASK Gent.
Starting point of the work
On my first visit to the bridal shop, I was struck by the richness of the fabrics, the textures and the play of light moving across the dresses. That lightness and softness connect to my painting practice, in which I try to capture the tactility of materials and the fragility of a moment. For these new works, I'm exploring how that fleeting, almost weightless quality can be translated into paint.

The Ivory Club
According to founder Stéphanie Bosten, bridal fashion didn't need more, it needed more refinement. As a fashion stylist and a former bride herself, she knew exactly what she had once missed.
