Nout Schoonhoven

About the artist
Nout Schoonhoven's artistic practice starts from painting but also moves toward textile, installation and graphic techniques. He explores how a painting can be not only an image, but also a physical object that continues to develop.
Nout Schoonhoven (2001) lives in Arnhem. He graduated from the Fine Art (BEAR) programme at ArtEZ in Arnhem.
Starting point of the work
What moved me most during my visit to REantwerp was the people. People from different parts of the world come together here to give something that has fallen apart a new chance. I see that not only as repair, but also as a symbolic form of care and resilience. I was given a bag full of leftover textile by REantwerp, which I'll be working into the canvas. In this way, even the remnants of the remnants get a second life.

REantwerp
REantwerp is no ordinary fashion shop. This social initiative, co-founded by Stichting Gatam, brings high fashion and new opportunities together. Refugees are given the chance to learn the trade here, gain work experience, and help build remarkable collections. They work with high-quality surplus fabrics from major fashion houses, including Dries Van Noten. As a result, almost every piece is unique.
