Jan Janssens
About the artist
Jan Janssens works mainly with ceramics and oil paint. His visual language consists chiefly of little figures and skyscrapers that stand in contrast with one another. The buildings symbolise the ever-racing pace of society, while the figures are self-aware and searching for connection with their surroundings. Jan invites us to pause and acknowledge it ourselves.
Jan Janssens (2000) lives and works in Antwerp. He graduated in Visual Arts from Sint Joost School of Art & Design.
Starting point of the work
What struck me is how stylish the shop is, filled with high-quality products, hats in particular. Our language is incredibly rich in proverbs involving these wonderful headpieces. I'm going to translate a number of those proverbs into images, with a wink to the man wearing the hat, cap or beanie.

When the owner, Nathan Rignonnec, or his wife, starts telling stories in this small yet hat-filled world, you know in advance you'll be won over. And what stories they are. They collect remarkable pieces from all over the world: hats and caps in every shape, size and price range, foldable or with UV protection. It's not about the trend of the moment here, but about what endures: a good fit, character and timeless elegance.
